So I got up on Friday and headed over to get the tickets for the Cirque du Soleil-type show,
Fuerza Bruta, and the walk was nice and luckily the rain subsided for my walk. So I got to the mall where they sold tickets, got 6 for the group, and headed to the subway station to ride back home. I was feeling low key so didn't want to walk too much today, but of course when I got to the subway station the subway was busted. Classic. So I walked a ton more to get home in the swampy weather and then got home and napped for a bit before waking up in time to hit the show. Jumped a cab with a cool chica named Angel, from California, and got to the show way too early. In my defense the ticket woman told me to get there an hour early. Oh well. So they keep the doors closed to the auditorium until just before the show starts, but you can hear pounding techno in the room behind the doors. Finally they open the doors at about 8:45pm (for the 8:30pm show), and we all rush in to a huge room (both length and height). It's all black and there are no seats, but on stage in front are 5-7 huge drums. The lights dim and drummers come out and start ripping it and singing at the same time. It was GREAT. They had a great rhythm and the audience was loving it too. So in the middle of the jam a group of about 5 acrobats in harnesses come flying over the audience, no more than 10 feet above us. They are all holding on to one another, dressed in normal clothes, and yelling as if they are flying through space. It was hilarious. You got the drums going nuts and these crazies flying over your head yelling. After that first song some ushers started pushing everyone to the sides of the room, because they were rolling in what looked like a huge treadmill. It was probably 10 feet off the ground, and about 20ft by 10ft of moving platform on top. There's a guy in a white suit walking on the treadmill, and then he's running, and then he's sprinting, and then there's a crazy-loud gun shot, and he stumbles, shows blood on his shirt, then rips his shirt off to show another clean white shirt below. So he starts running again, but now there is artificial rain coming down on him (and all of us), and it become apparent that the theme is that this guys is running against time. Always in a rush. Always trying to catch up or make it to the next thing in his life. Seems weirdly familiar to my life, so I'm digging it. The show moves from acrobatics to water to confetti to breaking down walls and the acrobats dancing in the crowd with us. It really was a BLAST. It's a lot to describe, so please check out the pics below and the links to videos. My friend Louise, from Sweden, too the pics and vids - thanks Louise!
After the show we went to this microbrewery just outside the Recoletta cemetery, which was great and oddly very American (cheese fries, nachos, chicken sandos). After dinner we headed back to a few low key drinks at the hostel. Such a great night!! This is definitely the type of event I was looking for the entire time I was here in Buenos Aires, so it was great to see it. Big thanks to my friend Sobs from London for telling me about this event. Sorry you weren't able to make it, man, but it was badass!!!

These girls are on the wall - running sideways |

Again - totally sideways to the ground - walking on the wall |

They lowered this plastic water tank where ballerinas were swimming around in it - feet above our heads |

Me waiting patiently for the next chaos to ensue |
